How you'll make impact

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll architect, design, and build secure, scalable systems that power Airwallex’s lending platform and enable fast, seamless, and compliant credit experiences. You’ll own the technical direction of robust lending services, APIs, and distributed systems that support enterprise clients embedding credit products into their own offerings.

• Lead design reviews, shape systems architecture, and mentor engineers while raising the bar for code quality, technical excellence, and engineering practices.

• Build resilient, high-throughput services that perform reliably at global enterprise scale, supported by strong testing, observability, monitoring, and operational discipline.

• Partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and other engineering teams to evolve the platform and support expansion into new financing products.

• Own the technical foundations that enable secure, scalable lending services and APIs for enterprise clients and their users.

This is an in-office role — you’ll be in our Singapore office five days a week.

What we're looking for

Essentials

• A bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including modern engineering practices, continuous integration, and quality engineering.

• At least 2 years in a technical leadership role, mentoring engineers and leading the definition and execution of engineering strategy.

• Strong computer science fundamentals and object-oriented programming skills, with proven experience building backend systems.

• Strong experience with Java or Kotlin and the Spring or Spring Boot framework, or comparable backend technologies.

• Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs, with a solid understanding of modern API design principles and tools.

• Experience with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures in production environments.

• A proven track record designing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency, highly available distributed systems at scale.

• Cloud experience with GCP or AWS, plus Docker and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.

Preferred

• Experience in financial services, lending, payments, or credit products.

• Experience building SaaS products offered as a platform.
